I build software for PI System engineers because I am one. I've spent my career on the plant floor — picking up displays, calcs, and tribal knowledge from the engineers who came before me. Eventually I got tired of rebuilding the same migration scripts on every project, so I started Veiled Origin to ship them as products.
PI Bytez (browser + Excel) and PI Kneader (bulk AF migrator) are the first two. Both solve problems I lived through. Both run locally — no customer data leaves your machine, ever.

Principles
Look past the surface. A display is not a calculation. A calc is not a tag. Every layer hides another. Good tools help you see the whole stack at once.
Trace problems to their origin, from first principles. Symptom-fixes accumulate into unmaintainable systems. We build tools that expose the real shape of the data.
Industrial software is mission-critical. A migration script that silently drops 2% of calcs is worse than one that fails loudly. We route every anomaly to a review sheet — nothing disappears.
Why this exists
The PI System runs a huge chunk of the world's process infrastructure. Oil platforms, refineries, power grids, water utilities, pharma lines — every one of them has thousands of PI Vision displays full of tribal-knowledge calculations that grew over years, with no standard, no backup, no migration path.
When engineers retire, the calcs die with them. When displays are deleted, the intent is gone. When a site migrates to AF — the right way, for audit and compliance and reliability — it takes weeks per server, by hand, in PI Builder.
Veiled Origin exists to collapse that gap. Capture the display calcs. Apply quality controls. Generate a PI Builder-ready workbook per server. Done in an afternoon. Nothing lost.
That's the whole plan. Just this, done well.
